I'm not old... really. But man, everyday it sure seems like I'm getting there.

First, today I learn that Barack Obama's Director of Speech Writing IN THE WHITE HOUSE is 27 years old (more on this later).

Now, Greg Maddux retires.

When you start to have sports heroes who both begin and end their careers while you're watching and cheering... you're not young.

I remember Maddux when he, like most every Cubs pitcher of my time, was bad. Now, he's a sure thing Hall of Famer, and, in five years, when he enters the Hall, Mr. O will just to be old enough to start having sports (and other) heroes of his own.

That's when I'll really feel old.
